Rocktop Academy is a nonprofit learning and development organization serving students in grades 6 through 12.

We offer a structured learning environment built around three pathways: academic, athletic, and personal development, individually or in combination, depending on what each student needs. But regardless of which pathway brings a student here, one thing remains constant: the Personal Development Program.

Every student at Rocktop participates in this program. It is the heartbeat of our mission, what connects every student, every team, and every classroom under one shared standard. We are not just developing players and students. We are developing people who can manage their money, lead a room, enter the workforce with confidence, serve their community, and move through the world with purpose and character.

Rocktop currently operates through Rocktop Academy Anywhere, our fully remote program, while we build out our physical campus in New Jersey to serve the South Jersey and greater Philadelphia region. Rocktop provides the structure, the programming, and the accountability to help every student succeed, and every student leaves here ready for what comes next.

Some schools measure success in grades and graduation rates. We measure it in the people our students become, long after they leave our doors.

That standard didn’t start with Rocktop. It started decades ago, and it has never wavered.

The Beginning

Sam Rines spent his life in the business of people. As a teacher in Abington, Pennsylvania, a basketball coach at LaSalle, and the founder of the James Fox Basketball League, he understood something most educators miss: that discipline, character, and the belief in something larger than yourself aren’t byproducts of a good education. They are the education.

Not because he set out to create stars, but because he poured into people, and people rose.

The Next Generation

His son, Sam Rines III, saw the same truth from a different angle. In 2000, he founded Rise Academy, a basketball academy and one of the earliest programs of its kind, built on a single conviction: that the pivotal year in a young person’s life isn’t about what they achieve. It’s about who they become in the process.

What Comes Next

Rocktop Academy exists to complete what both programs started, a school where personal development isn’t a program. It’s the foundation. Where students don’t just earn a diploma, they discover who they are, where they’re going, and what they’re capable of.

The results speak for themselves. NBA champions. Grammy artists. Doctors. Lawyers. Executives. And countless others living lives of purpose.

That legacy is what Rocktop is built on.

Your story is what it’s built for.

Rocktop Academy develops disciplined, capable, and purpose-driven young adults. We do it through academics, athletics, and personal development. We meet every student where they are and hold them to a standard that prepares them for what comes next.

Academic Excellence (For Students on This Pathway)
Students complete coursework within a structured environment that demands consistency and measurable progress. We hold students to a standard that prepares them to perform beyond the classroom.

Athletic Development (For Students on This Pathway)
We develop athletes beyond the game: preparation, communication, personal brand, and a clear understanding of the recruitment process at every level. Talent opens doors. We build the student capable of walking through them.

Personal Development
Discipline, integrity, and self-awareness are not electives at Rocktop, they are the foundation. Every student completes Rocktop’s Personal Development Program, built around real-world readiness and character formation.

Each student’s path through the program is built around where they are and where they’re going. Every student leaves with a clearer sense of who they are, what they stand for, and what independence actually requires.

We also believe purpose-driven people serve others, and we look for ways to build that value into a student’s experience at Rocktop.
